Kiosk is a small building in Govanhill, Glasgow, and a collaborative project with Lee Ivett and our neighbours in the street, exploring micro-civic spaces and collective and individual agency in the city.

An initial phase of physical work saw the reinstatement of the bricked up ‘shop window’. The new circular concrete window, lined in Mirrl, is cut into the infill brick providing glimpses in and out of the space for the first time in decades. Painted and boarded-over glazing in the door has been revealed and stripped to further illuminate the space.

Conceived as prop for various community uses, a simple window seat / stage / viewing platform / display piece was designed and constructed from shuttering ply in a single weekend, and a storage wall added with neighbours to contain the things we now understand such a space requires.

Purchased unseen in 2018, the project has now run for more than five years, providing space for numerous activities, enterprises and events of a scale for which space is disproportionately effortful to access. These range from performances and exhibitions, to reading groups, community organising and workshop use.

Kiosk is currently dormant. If you are interested in discussing the future of Kiosk, please see contact page for details.
